CNEWS, Marrakech — Morocco’s security doctrine has evolved from a traditional crime-fighting approach into a strategic engine of national development, thanks to the farsighted leadership of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, said Mohamed Ben Ali Koman, Secretary General of the Arab Interior Ministers Council.

Speaking to MAP on Tuesday on the sidelines of the 93rd General Assembly of INTERPOL, held in Marrakech from November 24 to 27, Koman emphasized that Morocco’s modern security architecture places the protection of citizens and the consolidation of societal trust at its core.

“Security in Morocco Is a Pillar of Development”

According to Koman, Morocco’s security institutions operate with a clear vision: safeguarding stability as the foundation for the Kingdom’s sustained socio-economic progress.

“What distinguishes Morocco’s security institution is its strong and constant drive to evolve, translating the enlightened Vision of His Majesty the King into concrete action that meets the country’s aspirations for greater prosperity,” he said.

He highlighted that Morocco’s approach goes beyond maintaining public order, integrating human rights protection, citizen services, and community partnership into the daily work of law enforcement.

Human-Centered Policing and International Recognition

Koman underscored that the Moroccan security model has made citizen service and human dignity top priorities. Initiatives such as the National Security Open Days, which attract millions of visitors annually, demonstrate Morocco’s commitment to transparency and direct engagement with the public — a pioneering model within the Arab world.

He also noted the string of recent international distinctions awarded to:

  • Abdellatif Hammouchi, Director General of National Security and Territorial Surveillance,

    • Prince Naif Medal for Arab Security — First Class
    • Grand Cross of the Order of Merit of the Spanish Civil Guard

  • Morocco’s election as INTERPOL Vice President for Africa

These recognitions, he said, reflect the credibility, professionalism, and high standing of Morocco’s security leadership on the regional and global stage.

Morocco as a Hub of Arab and International Security Cooperation

Koman emphasized that the Kingdom’s hosting of the 93rd INTERPOL General Assembly — marked by exceptional attendance from across continents — enables many countries, particularly in the Arab world, to learn directly from Morocco’s pioneering security experience.

He noted that Morocco has long served as a central platform for Arab security coordination, hosting the headquarters of:

  • The Arab Organization for Social Defense Against Crime, and
  • The Arab Office for Civil Protection and the Environment

These institutions operate under the umbrella of the Arab Interior Ministers Council and play vital roles in regional cooperation.

A Vision Linking Security, Development, and Environmental Protection

According to Koman, Morocco’s decision to host major security and civil-protection institutions is fully aligned with HM King Mohammed VI’s comprehensive Vision, which integrates:

  • national security,
  • sustainable development, and
  • environmental stewardship.

“Morocco’s leadership in modern, citizen-focused security policies is now a reference point for Arab and international partners,” he concluded. (PERSISMA/Red)
